It’s time we embrace the relationship we are lucky enough to have
Friends will come and go, but family is forever. So what better friend to have than one that is family as well? The best friend any girl can have is her mother, because not only will she love you unconditionally, but she is older, wiser, and will always have your best interest in mind.
1. She gives the best relationship advice.
Your mom is older and wiser. She knows what crap is worth putting up with and what isn’t from any guy. She knows which guys will be a waste of time long before you do, and she knows exactly what to say when you ignore her advice and get your heart broken anyway.
2. She knows all the best bars.
Your mom has been 21+ for awhile now, and she knows which bars have the best dance scenes and which ones get you the most bang for your buck. She’s had enough good times for the both of you, and she will happily pass that torch down to you.
3. She has the same sense of humor as you.
Where did you think you got it from, after all? When no one else understands, she does. That’s why you two have a million inside jokes, even if it makes everyone else in the room roll their eyes.
4. She is always just as excited to see you as you are to see her.
You’re not always everyone’s favorite person to be around, but you’re always your mom’s favorite person to be around. Whether you saw her five minutes ago or five years ago, she is always going to excitedly run to you and squeeze the life out of you the moment she sees you.
5. She doesn’t stop loving you when you fight.
If you have a big blowout with a friend, she may become your ex-friend. That’s not the case with your mom. She has heard you call her the meanest names under your breath as you stormed off and slammed your door, and she loved you anyway.
6. She knows exactly what to do to comfort you on the bad days.
If you need a hug, or a shoulder to cry on, she’s there. She knows when and how to make you laugh, when to let you cry, and exactly what food to get to lift your spirits.
7. She knows all of your flaws, but loves you anyway.
You don’t have to pretend to be anything you aren’t when you’re with her. She knows exactly who you are, down to your core, and she wouldn’t trade you for the world. She has dealt with you through every awful phase you went through, from the Terrible Twos to whatever happened in junior high, and she will continue to stick by you no matter how weird she thinks your outfit looks.
8. She supports you through everything.
Your mom never misses the chance to cheer you for your success or console you during your failures. She is the one standing up in the crowd clapping and yelling louder than anyone. She is the one answering her phone at 2 a.m. because you’re feeling hopeless.
9. She gives honest advice.
She isn’t afraid to hurt your feelings or offend you. If your hair makes you look like a poodle or if you’re on the wrong side of a disagreement, she won’t hold back. Just know that everything she says is said out of love.
10. She helped shape you into who you are now.
Not everyone ends up exactly like their mom, but at least some of the lessons she taught you stuck. Who you are today is partly due to the upbringing she gave you. The similarities you share run deeper than having her great hair or small hands. She has been trying to make you the better version of herself since the day you were born, because she wants you to have the best life possible. What better friend to have than one that is pushing for your happiness?
